Eastern Box Turtle

The eastern box turtle eats mushrooms, fruit, insects, worms, bugs, and berries. It is the only land turtle. It can put it's whole body in it's shell. It has a camoflouge on it's own shell. It was the first chosen the state reptile in North Carolina in 1979. It has red streaks and spots and orange streaks and spots on it's shell.

The eastern box turtle is the only land turtle in North Carolina. It eats a lot of stuff like grubs, worms, mushrooms, slugs, fruit, and berries. It can turn camoflouge in things like leaves. My group saw a real turtle shell. It was black and tan. It had big holes in it. It is the state reptile. The eastern box turtle can put his whole body in the shell. They can be small and large. I can't wait unti lthe next videoconference. I had so much fun this morning.

The drone bee helps the queen lay eggs. A drone bee does not have a stinger. The worker bee collects nectar, pollen, and water. A worker builds the hive. The worker bee does everything! If a hive gets hot, a worker bee gets water and cools the hive. I was amazed! I really like learning about bees.

Northern Cardinal

First we started when Alexandra was talking about the cardinal. Alexandra first said they only live 15 years. A male is all red, but a female is light brown. The female is camaflouged, so another bird will not take the egg. The cardinal is the state bird. The cardinal has a crest on top of it's head. I enjoyed this group.
Scotch Bonnet

One day I went to the distance learning classroom and saw a sea snail shell. I learned that a snail eats sanddollars and urchins. The snail moves with it's slime on its feet. It's the state shell. It lives in the ocean. The shell gets its name from the design on it's back. I love science.
Long Leaf Pine Tree

The pine needles are very long. Pine trees are all over North Carolina. The wood of the pine trees are used for ships in wars. All the pine trees in North Carolina are very tall. This tree is the state tree. On the pine trees there is pine cones. I love pine trees!

The female cardinal is brown. The male cardinal is red. It can live up to 15 years. It is the state bird. The cardinal will not migrate, it stays in North Carolina.

The Northern Cardinal is our state bird. The cardinals nickname is red bird because it is a bird and it is red. Red birds can live up to 15 years. The female cardinal stays in the nest. Cardinals don't migrate. Female cardinals are brownish yellow. Female cardinals camoflouge their selves and their babies. I like all kinds of birds.

First we started when Fernando started telling the lady about the honey bee. The worker bee does all the work. The drone bee doesn't have a stinger. Fernando said bees get nectar from flower.

The pine needles are very long. A lot of longleaf pine trees grow in North Carolina. Longleaf pine trees drop large pine cones. Longleaf pine trees do not fall if there is a fire. I really learned a lesson about longleaf pine trees.

The longleaf pine trees protect itself from fire. The pine needles are just about as long as a piece of paper. The pine needles are very long. When the long leaf pine needles are small they are shaped like cattle brushes. I really leanred a lot about pine needles.
